Mt Finlayson can be approached from either Goldstream or the Highlands. I prefer the latter. To start, take Millstream Rd exit (Costco), and continue on north until Finlayson Arm Rd. Just as the road starts to descend steeply, you will see a couple of signs in the forest to the left, and a widened shoulder with enough room for a few cars to park.
There are a few path forks, essentially keep to the right. Sorry, my gps unit didn’t seem to record this properly. In any case, take the first right at 0.3 km and then another right at 0.6. Shortly after, the climbing starts, mostly pretty steep but quite manageable. In the spring, keep your eyes peeled for Spotted Coralroot, a native parasitic (non-photosynthetic orchid)
In the fall, keep your eye out for chantarelles, hedgehogs, and lactarius deliciosus
At the top, nice views of the Olympic Mountains:
Or the Gulf Islands
Or just plain old Victoria
